Lessons of the Hour–An Evening with Isaac Julien and Mark Nash

March 2 @ 7:00 pm

British filmmaker and installation artist Isaac Julien is one of the most lauded and influential figures in contemporary art. His partner, Mark Nash, is an independent curator and writer and former head of contemporary art at the Royal College of Art in London.

Join Julien and Nash for a career-spanning multimedia presentation featuring clips from Julien’s acclaimed films and installations, including his ten-screen poetic meditation on the life and times of American abolitionist Frederick Douglass, Lessons of the Hour. An illuminating conversation moderated by USC Roski professor Mary Kelly and USC Architecture dean Milton S. F. Curry will explore Julien’s visual language and topography; his examination of structures of power and meaning across global cultures; and observations on art, gender, and race in the digital world.
